Etymology: < -stan (in the names of various (especially Central Asian) countries, as e.g. Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, etc.).
A country with a name ending in -stan; a central Asian country, esp. a republic which was formerly part of the Soviet Union.

Etymology: < Stan, the name of an obsessive fan in the song Stan (2000) by U.S. rapper Eminem (Marshall Bruce Mathers III, b. 1972).
slang (derogatory, except when self-deprecatory).
An overzealous or obsessive fan, esp. of a particular celebrity.In quot. 2000 used with reference to the audience at a live performance of the song Stan by Eminem (see etymology).
