Etymology: < stag n.1 + -ette suffix.
1. Originally (U.S.): a party attended only by women (now rare). Now chiefly (Canadian): a party given for a woman who is about to be married, typically attended by women only; = bachelorette party n. at bachelorette n. Additions. Cf. stag n.1 7e. Cf. hen party n.The sense of quot. 1904 is unclear, but is perhaps ‘a small stag party’.
