Origin: Formed within English, by conversion. Etymon: English to bodge up.
Etymology: < to bodge up (see bodge v.). Compare earlier botch-up n.Compare also the following apparently isolated Australian example, in which the sense appears to be ‘confused or clumsy mixture’ (compare hodge-podge n.):1953 Portland (Victoria, Austral.) Guardian 14 May 3/2 It is difficult to understand why such a bodge-up of color, mainly on the drab side, and of lines indicating very roughly patterns of houses, etc., should have been chosen for the exhibit.
Chiefly British.
A bodged or bungled task or undertaking; a piece of work that has been done hastily, clumsily, or unskilfully. Also as a modifier, esp. in bodge-up job; cf. bodge job n.
