Etymology: modern Latin; named after the Sicilian botanist, Paolo Boccone (1633–1704).
A tall herbaceous plant or shrub of the papaveraceous genus of the name, with large lobed leaves and panicles of flowers. The favourite species is B. cordata, with cream-coloured flowers growing on tall stems.
