Origin: Of uncertain origin. Perhaps a borrowing from Kongo. Etymon: Kongo -bubulu.
Etymology: Origin uncertain; perhaps < Kongo -bubul- (in e.g. bubula to become spoiled or corrupt), although this poses phonological problems.
Caribbean (chiefly Trinidad).
Fraudulent activity; esp. misappropriation or embezzlement of public funds. Also: an instance of this; a swindle, a scam.
