Origin: A borrowing from Dutch. Etymon: Dutch bonket.
Etymology: < early modern Dutch bonket (although this is first attested later) a small spherical object made of bone or ivory (1599), such an object used in a game (19th cent. or earlier) < bonk bone, knuckle bone (15th cent.), the game of knuckle bones (19th cent. or earlier), of uncertain origin + -et -et suffix1.
Obsolete. rare.
A metacarpal or metatarsal bone; a die or other small spherical object made from this. Also: a game played with such a bone or object.
