单词 spelt
释义

speltn.1

Forms: Also Middle English spilt, spylt, 1500s spelte, 1600s spealt.
Etymology: Old English spelt, = Middle Dutch spelte, spelt (Dutch spelt, West Frisian spjelte), Old Saxon spelta (Middle Low German spelte), Old High German spelza (Middle High German spelze, spelte, German spelz, spelt), < late Latin spelta (from c400, mentioned as a foreign word answering to the older Latin far), whence also Italian spelta, spelda, Spanish espelta, Old French spelte, spealte, spiautre, espeltre, espiautre, etc., modern French épeautre. The evidence indicates that the word had no continuous history in English, and little currency, until the 16th cent.
A species of grain ( Triticum spelta) related to wheat, formerly much cultivated in southern Europe and still grown in some districts.
