Etymology: modern Latin, < Greek σπανο- , combining form of σπανός (usually σπάνιος ) scarce, scanty + -αιμία (as in ἀναιμία anaemia n.), < αἷμα blood. Compare French spanémie.
Pathology.
A morbid condition of the blood characterized by a deficiency of red corpuscles; poorness of the blood.
