Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French son et lumière.
Etymology: < French son et lumière, lit. ‘sound and light’ (apparently 1952 or earlier) < son sound (see sound n.3) + et and + lumière light (12th cent. in Old French; < classical Latin or post-classical Latin luminaria , plural of luminare celestial object, star (see luminary n.), with reanalysis of the neuter plural as feminine singular).
1. A form of entertainment usually held by night at a historic monument or building, using recorded sound and lighting effects to give a dramatic narrative of its history. Frequently attributive.
