单词 actino-
释义

actino-comb. form

Stress is usually determined by a subsequent element and vowels may be reduced accordingly.
Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from Latin. Partly a borrowing from Greek. Etymons: Latin actīno-; Greek ἀκτινο-.
Etymology: < classical Latin actīno- (in e.g. actīnophoros : see actinophorous adj.) and its etymon Hellenistic Greek ἀκτινο-, combining form (in e.g. ἀκτινοβόλος sending forth rays: see actinobolism n.) of ancient Greek ἀκτῖν- , ἀκτίς ray, beam; compare -o- connective.Attested in borrowings and adaptations of Latin words from the 17th cent. (earliest in actinobolism n.) and subsequently also in loans and adaptations from French (as e.g. actinote n., actinology n., etc.) and German (as actinomycosis n.). Formations in English are found from the end of the 18th cent. (earliest in actinolite n.) and are more numerous from the mid 19th cent. in scientific vocabulary. This element combines with elements of Latin or Greek origin. Compare French actino- (formations in which are found from at least the late 18th cent.), German aktino- (formations in which are found from at least the 2nd half of the 19th cent.).
