Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin sonorificus.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin sonorificus (1672 in the passage translated in quot. 1683) < classical Latin sonōri- , stem of sonor sound (see sonorous adj.) + -ficus -fic suffix.
Now rare.
Producing, or capable of producing, sound.In later use frequently with reference to the production of sound by parts of an animal's body other than vocal organs.
