1. Junk, scrap; esp. material such as rope, dunnage, or scrap metal which may be taken and sold. Now rare.

1940 Liverpool Daily Post 12 Mar. 3/2 One of the uses of ‘slummy’ is to describe pieces of rope used in connection with the loading of steel bars or rods. There used to be a number of ‘slummy men’ who dealt in the rope remnants left over after ships' voyages; and nowadays Liverpool dock workers often speak of any junk heap as ‘the slummy’.
