单词 sloop
释义

sloopn.1

Brit. /sluːp/, U.S. /slup/
Forms: Also 1600s slope, sloope.
Etymology: < Dutch sloep, = Frisian and Low German slûp , Danish, Swedish, Norwegian slup , German schlup ; also older Dutch sloepe (Kilian), Low German slupe , Danish sluppe , German schlupe . The history of the Dutch and Low German word is obscure, but it appears more probable that it is an adoption of French chaloupe or Spanish chalupa than that it is the source of these. (French has also sloop or sloupe from English or Dutch.) Compare chaloupe n., shallop n., and shalloop (see shallop n.).
