Etymology: Origin uncertain. Perhaps < slob n.1 + furrowing n. and adj. at furrow v. Derivatives, with allusion to the slabs of earth turned over onto the unploughed land between furrows. Compare slob-furrow v.
English regional (Norfolk). Obsolete.
A method of ploughing with widely spaced furrows, in which alternate strips of ground are turned over on to the unploughed land in between; an instance of this. Cf. rib-ploughing n. and rib-furrowing n. at rib n.1 Compounds 2.
