Etymology: Probably < Irish slabhac, sleabhac (also diminutive sleabhacán , Scottish Gaelic slabhgan ) in sense 1: compare the Gaelic origin of dulse n. For variant forms see slake n.2 and sloke n.1In older dictionaries frequently misprinted slank(e.
northern dialect and Scottish.
