Origin: A borrowing from Icelandic. Etymon: Icelandic skyr.
Etymology: < Icelandic skyr (Old Icelandic skyr ; cognate with Faroese skyr , Norwegian skyr , Old Swedish, Swedish skyr , Old Danish skyr (Danish skør , also skyr )), apparently < a different ablaut grade (zero grade) of the Germanic base of shear v. (compare Old Danish skerask, Norwegian (Nynorsk) skjera seg, (Bokmål) skjære seg (all reflexive) to curdle, to separate into whey and curd).
An Icelandic dairy product resembling a thick yogurt, made from strained curds.
