1. The name of a futuristic spindle-shaped filigree tower forming a prominent feature of the Festival of Britain in 1951. Also figurative and in extended use. Now historical.A tensegrity structure made of wire, steel, and aluminium, the Skylon appeared to float above the ground and was lit from within at night. It was removed in 1952.
