Etymology: < French abord action of approaching a person (1440–75 in Middle French), place where someone has arrived (c1530), place where one boards or disembarks, port (1556), action of arriving at a place (1616–20) < aborder aboard v.With at first abord at sense 1 compare French au premier abord, de premier abord from the outset (1575).
1. The action or an act of approaching or arriving; an approach. Frequently in at first abord and variants. In later use also: manner of approach. Obsolete.
