Etymology: < scientific Latin siderosis (in siderosis pulmonum ; F. A. Zenker 1866, in Deutsches Arch. f. klin. Med. 2 130) < ancient Greek σίδηρος iron (see sidero- comb. form¹) + scientific Latin -osis -osis suffix. In sense 2 after German Siderosis ( H. Quincke Über Siderosis (1877) 37; now also as Siderose ). In sense 3 after scientific Latin siderosis bulbi (G. von Bunge 1891, in Verhandl. des X. Internat. Med. Congr., 1890 IV. 151).
