Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: boob n.1, booby n.1, bourgeoisie n.
Etymology: < either boob n.1 or boob- (in booby n.1) + -oisie (in bourgeoisie n.). Compare slightly earlier boobery n. 2.Apparently introduced by H. L. Mencken (compare quot. 1921).
Originally and chiefly U.S. colloquial (humorous).
Stupid, inept, or blundering people considered collectively, esp. as a social or political class; a group of people characterized as being foolish or ignorant. Cf. boob n.1 1a.
