Etymology: Old English sícan , whence in Middle English both sīchen /siːtʃ-/ and sīken sike v. In Old English a strong verb (compare the past tense onsāc ), but in Middle English transferred to the weak class represented by rǣcean , tǽcean , etc. After siche became obsolete, the past tense sight was associated with sigh v., and remained in use till the 17th cent.
