Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from French. Partly a borrowing from Latin. Etymons: French accusant; Latin accūsant-, accūsāns, accusāre.
Etymology: Partly < Middle French, French accusant (noun) person who accuses (a1342), (adjective) that accuses (a1389; uses as noun and adjective respectively of the present participle of accuser accuse v.), and partly < classical Latin accūsant-, accūsāns, present participle of accusāre accuse v.
Now rare.
