short-term memory n. (originally) the capacity for remembering something for a relatively short period of time; (in later use also) spec. the phase or type of memory responsible for the temporary holding, typically for less than thirty seconds, of a small amount of information in an unmodified form; abbreviated STM.Contrasted with long-term memory.
