b. Chiefly Medicine. Designating a single transverse crease or fold crossing the palm of the hand that is characteristic of certain simians, but is also observed in humans. Esp. in simian crease, simian line.In the human hand, there are usually two transverse creases; a single crease is most commonly seen in cases of Down's syndrome and certain other congenital conditions, but is not diagnostic of such conditions.
