Lisle's expressions on pp. 433–4: ‘a hard thundershower, which went to the roots of the corn’; ‘a moderate rain.., enough to go to the roots of the corn’; ‘one moderate shower..which went not to the roots of the corn’. ΚΠ a1722 E. Lisle Observ. Husbandry (1757) 435 March the 10th, or there~abouts, fell a rain that might possibly go to the sheer-point.
