Etymology: < the name of William Sharpey (1802–80), Scottish anatomist, who described such fibres in 1856 (J. Quain Anat. (ed. 6) I. p. cxx).
Anatomy.
A fibre of connective tissue passing from the periosteum through the lamellæ of a bone or tooth.
