Etymology: < the name of a Captain Shaddock: see quot. 1707 at sense a.
a. The fruit of Citrus decumana (also called pampelmoes n.) resembling an orange, but very much larger. In stricter use, applied to the large pear-shaped varieties of the species, the smaller and rounder varieties being called grape-fruit.
