Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin sextus , -ic suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin sextus sixth (see sext n.1) + -ic suffix. With use as adjective compare quintic adj. With use as noun compare slightly earlier quintic n., quartic n., and also octavic n.
