A member of a Christian denomination characterized by the observance of Saturday as the Sabbath and emphasis on the imminent Second Coming of Christ. Usually in plural.The Seventh-day Adventists are the largest of several groups which developed from the Millerite movement in the U.S. in the years following the failure of William Miller's prediction that Jesus Christ would return to earth on 22 October 1844 (see Millerite n.1). The Seventh-day Adventist Church was formally established in Battle Creek, Michigan, on 21 May 1863.
