单词 servus
释义

servusint.

Brit. /ˈzɛːvʊs/, /ˈsɛːvʊs/, U.S. /ˈzɛrvʊs/, /ˈsɛrvʊs/
Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German servus.
Etymology: < German regional (Austria, Bavaria) servus (18th cent. or earlier) < classical Latin servus servant (see serf n.).With the use as interjection compare post-classical Latin formulae of courtesy in letters such as observantissimus servus ‘(your) most obedient servant’ (1587 or earlier), and also German Diener (early 19th cent. or earlier as interjection; use as interjection of Diener servant (Old High German thionāri, Middle High German dienǣre)). Not fully naturalized in English. O.E.D. Suppl. (1986) gives only the non-naturalized pronunciation (ze·rvus) /ˈzɛrvʊs/. With the variant pronunciation with initial /s/ perhaps compare pronunciations with devoicing of the initial consonant in southern regional German.
Used in Austria and Bavaria as a greeting or farewell.Chiefly in representations of German speech.
