Frequently used allusively to refer something (esp. a situation or predicament) from which it is difficult to extricate oneself, now esp. in Serbonian bog.Lake Serbonis is now usually identified as Lake Bardawil in North Sinai, which is separated from the Mediterranean by a thin strip of land.
