Etymology: < German Septole (1788 or earlier), perhaps shortened < Septimole septimole n. Compare septimole n.
Music.
A group of seven notes, or notes and rests, to be played in the time of a smaller number of notes of the same kind, and usually designated by a figure 7.septuplet n. 1b is now the more common term.
