In Old English the prefixed form asencan asench v. is also attested; compare also besencan besench v. (more frequent in Old English than the unprefixed verb), forsencan to let drop, cause to sink (compare for- prefix1 and forsench vb. at for- prefix1 1e(a)(i)).
