A place of education, a school, college, university, or the like; often explicitly (cf. 3a) seminary of learning, seminary of science, etc. Also in more specific sense (cf. 3b) an institution for the training of those destined for some particular profession.Ladies' seminary: see ladies' seminary n. at lady n. Compounds 3b.‘In the earlier half of the 19th cent. ‘Seminary for Young Ladies’ was very common as the designation of a private school for girls.
