Etymology: semi- prefix 2c(a).Previous versions of the OED give the stress as: semi-ˈmonocoque.
a. Aeronautics. A fuselage or other structure having a rigid outer skin and a framework of longerons or stringers, so that stresses are shared between the skin and the framework. Usually attributive.
