Of or relating to the last period of predynastic culture in Upper Egypt; designating this period. Also as n.: the Semainean period. The existence of a distinct late predynastic culture has been questioned (cf. quot. 1944), and this period is now generally subsumed under either the Gerzean (Gerzean adj.) or the protodynastic period.
