bletherblatherv.

Brit. /ˈblɛðə/, /ˈblaðə/, U.S. /ˈblɛðər/, /ˈblæðər/, Scottish English /ˈblɛθər/, /ˈblaθər/
Forms: Also (?) 1500s blother.
Etymology: Middle English blather, < Old Norse blaðra to talk stupidly, < blaðr nonsense. Blather is the etymological form, blether being Scots and northern English (like gether = gather etc.). But in modern English, the word is generally accepted as Scotch (from Burns, Scott, Carlyle, etc.) and in the Scotch form. In U.S. blather appears to be more frequent.
Scottish and northern dialect.
