Origin: Apparently a borrowing from French. Etymon: French sériculture.
Etymology: Apparently < French sériculture (although this is apparently first attested slightly later: 1842 or earlier), shortened < sériciculture sericiculture n. N.E.D. (1912) also gives the pronunciation (se·rikɒltiŭɹ) /ˈsɛrɪkʌltjʊə(r)/.
The cultivation of silkworms, and of plants suitable for them to feed on, in order to produce raw silk.
