单词 self-heterodyning
释义

self-heterodyningn.

Brit. /ˌsɛlfˈhɛt(ə)rədʌɪnɪŋ/, U.S. /ˌsɛlfˈhɛdərəˌdaɪnɪŋ/
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: self- prefix, heterodyning n. and adj. at heterodyne adj. and n. Derivatives.
Etymology: < self- prefix + heterodyning, noun (see heterodyning n. and adj. at heterodyne adj. and n. Derivatives). Compare slightly earlier self-heterodyning adj.
Originally Radio. Later also in the context of laser and optical communications technologies.
The production of heterodyne interference with an incoming radio signal by the oscillation of the detecting circuit itself; a method of radio signal reception that uses this. In later use also: a method used in laser or optical communications technology to measure the linewidth of the optical spectrum of an incoming beam, in which the beam is split and recombined with a modulated version of itself.

Originally Radio. Later also in the context of laser and optical communications technologies.
Of a radio receiver or circuit: that functions both as the signal detector and as the local oscillator. In later use also in laser or optical communications technology: that employs or involves the splitting and recombination of an incoming beam with a modulated version of itself, in order to measure the linewidth of its optical spectrum.
