Etymology: Compare French chat de mer, ‘the smallest kind of dog-fish’ (Cotgrave).Previous versions of the OED give the stress as: ˈsea-cat.
1. A name for various fishes: (a) the wolf-fish, Anarrhichas lupus; (b) the great weever, Trachinus draco; (c) a shark, Scyllium catulus; (d) Chimæra monstrosa; (e) any sea-catfish, as Ælurichthys marinus.
