Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin scriptio continua.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin scriptio continua (1781 or earlier; also continua scriptio (1772 or earlier)) < classical Latin scrīptiō scription n. + continua , feminine of continuus (see continuous adj.).
Palaeography.
A style of writing in which the entire text is written as one continuous string of letters without punctuation or intervening spaces, esp. one employed in classical Greek or Latin manuscripts. Also: a text written in this style.
