Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French biscotin.
Etymology: < French biscotin (1680) < Italian biscottino small biscuit (16th cent.) < biscotto biscuit n. + -ino , suffix forming diminutives (see -ine suffix4).
Now rare.
A kind of sweet biscuit, typically made from a mixture of flour, sugar, egg whites, and marmalade which is boiled before being baked. Also more generally: a fancy biscuit, esp. one with orange flavouring.
