Etymology: < classical Latin scyphus large two-handled drinking vessel < ancient Greek σκύϕος large drinking vessel (see skyphos n.). Compare scypha n.In sense 2b after scientific Latin scyphus (1742 in Haller). In plural form scyphi after the Latin plural form.
