Forms: 1700s schirro-, 1700s– scirrho-, 1800s scirro-.
Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: scirrhus n., -o- connective.
Etymology: < scirrhus n. + -o- connective.Found in a small number of formations illustrated below. In scirrho-cancrous at sense 1 after post-classical Latin scirrhoso-cancrosus (1731 or earlier).
Medicine.
1. Forming adjectives designating tumours (or, rarely, other lesions) of a scirrhous or partially scirrhous nature, as scirrho-cancrous, scirrho-medullary, and nouns denoting tumours of this kind, as scirrho-cancer. Now historical and rare.
