Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element; modelled on an Italian lexical item. Etymons: Greek σκηνογράϕος , -er suffix1.
Etymology: < Hellenistic Greek σκηνογράϕος scenograph n. + -er suffix1, after Italian scenografico (1584 in the passage translated in quot. 1598 at sense 1). Compare later scenograph n.
1. A person who uses techniques of perspective in representing three-dimensional objects such as buildings, etc. Cf. scenograph n., scenography n. 1. Now rare (historical in later use).
