Etymology: < scenical adj. + -ly suffix2. Compare classical Latin scaenicē, Byzantine Greek σκηνικῶς.In the form scenic-all-y in quot. 1625 at sense 1 apparently representing an artificially laboured pronunciation of the word.
1. Theatrically; in relation to drama or theatre, or (now esp.) to stage scenery. Formerly also: †so as to resemble stage acting; histrionically, overdramatically (obsolete).
