Etymology: < scientific Latin blenno- (in e.g. blennorrhagia (1786 or earlier)) < ancient Greek βλέννος slime, βλέννα mucus (of unknown origin); compare -o- connective.First attested in loans from Latin, e.g. blennorrhagia n. Formations within English are found from the first half of the 19th cent. Compare French blenno- (formations in which are found from the late 18th cent.).
