Etymology: < the name of Theodor Schwann (1810–82), German physiologist, who described the neurilema in 1839 ( Mikroskop. Untersuchungen ü. d. Uebereinstimmung in d. Strukt. u. d. Wachsthum d. Thiere u. Pflanzen).
