Etymology: < scarlatina n. + -ous suffix, after either scientific Latin scarlatinosus (1776 or earlier) or French scarlatineux (1782 or earlier).
Medicine. Now rare.
Of, relating to, or associated with scarlet fever; = scarlatinal adj. Also: affected with scarlet fever.
