The techniques of musical composition developed by and characteristic of Schoenberg; the advocacy or practice of Schoenbergian techniques. Schoenberg was a revolutionary and influential figure in modern music. He abandoned traditional tonal structures, introduced the concept of atonality, and developed his own system of twelve-tone music (cf. twelve-tone n. at twelve adj. and n. Compounds 2c).
